Stay Sharp

AI can make you smarter. Don't let it make you dumber.

The risk isn’t that AI does the work. The risk is that you stop understanding it. AI hallucinates. It takes shortcuts. It makes decisions you didn’t notice. If you can’t recognize bad output, you can’t catch it.

The solution isn’t to use AI less. It’s to stay in the loop deliberately.

Two habits that help.

First, make the AI explain itself. After it produces something, ask it why. Ask it to document its decisions, add comments, and walk through its reasoning. Don’t accept output you can’t read. This isn’t just quality control. It’s how you learn. Every follow-up question is a chance to understand something you didn’t before.

Second, develop your own standards. When an approach works, write it down. Build a library of patterns, preferences, and best practices in your own words. Then use that library to direct the AI on the next thing. You’re not just checking its work. You’re leading it. Your understanding grows every time you encode something you know into an instruction someone else could follow.

The people who get dumber with AI are the ones who outsource their judgment. The ones who get smarter use AI to pressure-test and sharpen it.

Stay in the driver’s seat. The AI is a powerful tool. Make sure you’re the one holding it.
